40 for Forty

Whew! I haven’t written in over a month now. Not for lack of trying of course. I’ve been so busy with…well…life. The impending company merger has me a little nervous about my job, my daughter is getting way too comfortable with her “I can do it myself, Mommy” independence, no matter how long I run on the treadmill I just can’t seem to drop any weight (perhaps I should avoid eating a dozen chocolate chip nibblers before I step on it, but nonetheless…), and on top of all this my boyfriend STILL has not emptied out all these damn boxes in my living room!!

I got to thinking about all of the wonderful things life has to offer. There’s so much to do in the world…so much to see and experience (feel free to join me in the Ceephus & Reecie rendition of “This Land is Your Land”). Despite all the chaos going on in my life at the moment, there’s STILL a long list of things that I want to do. So I made myself a list of 40 things that I want to do before I turn 40…which is at least 20 years from now…if it was 1998. Some of them are major, some are things I can clearly do right now. I don’t feel like it though. Anyways…in no particular order:

1. Watch the NYE ball drop in Times Square

2. Take a photography class

3. Run a marathon

4. Go white water rafting

5. Buy and design my own house

6. Pay off student loans

10. Make double my current salary

11. Take professional photos with my grandma

15. Sit 50yd line at a Superbowl

16. Get my ITIL Certification

18. Become Manager at work

19. Hold a regional office within my sorority

20. Buy a pair of Louboutins

21. Cater and host Sunday brunch for friends

22. Join my church choir

23. Make a sweet potato pie from scratch

24. Pay off my car loan

25. Put up new bookshelves

26. Rearrange my closet

27. Renew my SCUBA license

28. Take a gourmet cooking class

29. Make a dress

30. Accumulate 25% of my income in my savings account

31. Invest monthly in stocks/mutual funds/IRAs

32. Blog once a week

33. Get down to a size 8

34. Do a joint therapy session with my mom

36. Learn how to braid hair

37. Create and write down an authentic recipe

38. Watch the Sex and the City series…from start to finish

39. Wash and fold all laundry

40. Visit all 50 states

This list looks long as hell, but I’m confident I can make these things happen. What about you? What are some things that you want to accomplish in the next 5-10 years?

The invitation is given. Chuuch.
